COFFEE WASTE is a RICH SUBSTRATE you can grow mushrooms on – directly on the waste or use it in equal proportions with sawdust (not pine), shredded paper waste or other cellulose waste. If you handle the coffee waste and keep it from outside air and work with it as soon as you get it you may well be be able to use as is. We recommend you use our aggressive oyster mushroom strain Elm A at 3-5% wet weight or 5-10% dry weight spawn to substrate ratio.
You may find mushrooms from coffee waste substrate only may be a bit bitter.
I am looking for opportunity to generate income for intellectually diasable people.
We want to start growing mushrooms commercially. (?)
Can you please advise us on the process and possible markets.
We have land available at Vredendal in the Western Cape.
Thanks, Maretha
Hello Maretha, I would recommend growing osyter mushrooms for the following reasons; (1)they are easier (probably the easiest) to grow than button mushrooms, (2) the deamnd for oyster mushrooms is growing rapidly, (3) there are already many brilliant button growers supplying the market, however there is lots of room for great oyster growers (4) marekt research has indicated that mushroom consumers are now looking for a variety of mushrooms. I will send you info via email on our workshop that is worth investing in.
where can i find button mushroom spawn in botswana
I don’t know. We would be able to courier spawn to your nearest SA town for you to collect…
I am intrested to grow mushrooms. Can i get more info to start up where can a sample of structure be veiwed. Regards Gideon Joubert.
I would recommend our Rookie ‘roomer kit, as the best place to start. The kit comes with everything you need and very clear and simple instructions to follow. From there you will have learnt mushroom growing techniques. You will need 10kg of substrate – ideas are on the link.https://mushrush.co.za/products-page/growing-mushrooms/spawn/mushroom-starter-pack-september-2014/
